PROFESSIONAL LABS
DIGITAL MARKETING LAB
This lab was established for students to practice the O2O (Offline to Online) digital marketing and for faculty to study the two-way flow between the online and the physical world. Through various digital marketing software and hardware, such as interactive digital signage, intelligent vending machines, and Beacon active promotion and joint marketing system, students were advised by the SOM faculty and provided proposals of digital marketing and advising to enterprises.
FINTECH LAB
This lab was established to train students’ ability in FinTech and for faculty’s engagement with enterprises through industry-academia projects. The lab provided students with the training of financial technologies, such as Thomson Reuters, XQ global winner, R Studio, and TEJ Smart Wizard. Students were trained to make visual graphics, data screening and processing, data import and export, basic analysis/prediction models for the further study on artificial intelligence and machine learning. Through industry-academia projects, faculty members worked with enterprises on the topics related to investor psychological factor, AI financial management robot, and long-term care insurance. Faculty even worked with industries to develop relevant financial information systems.
E-ACCOUNTING LAB
Accounting is one profession that requires absolute precision and involves many repetitive, time-consuming tasks, making it an ideal candidate for the application of technology, especially AI and data science. This lab was established to use AI with other technologies to enhance the accounting workflow. Students were trained to reduce time spent in repetitive tasks by using technologies and learned to find solutions through case discussions. Faculty were also encouraged to have more innovative research on optimizing the accounting process of business.
INSURTECH LAB
The lab was established to provide more data analysis resources for quality teaching and excellent research. With regard to quality teaching, by 2021, the lab developed ten data analysis cases for faculty and students as practice for earning insurance certificates. With regard to excellent research, the faculty in the InsurTech Lab published four PRJs and two conference papers, advised three students for masters’ theses, and were awarded four competitive grants related to big data and artificial intelligence from industry for a total of USD$88,408. Faculty and students worked together to provide policy checking and counseling services for community.
COLLABORATION
INNOVATION AND INCUBATION CENTER
The Innovation and Incubation Center, orginally established as the Enterprise Incubation Center, creates a low-cost environment for small and medium-sized enterprises to enhance their competitiveness. The Center provides entrepreneurs with direct access to SOM faculty’s expertise in marketing, human resources, finance, and other business-related fields. Since the establishment of the Center in 1999, 131 enterprises have been successfully incubated, and 27 are currently in process. It has won several incubation center awards and government grants in the past few years.
FINANCE RESEARCH CENTER
The Finance Research Center, operated by SOM faculty, provides consulting services to local firms and organizations, and fosters synergy between academic resources and business practices. By offering high quality services, the Center has been engaged by regional clients for consulting. Through successful projects, the Center helps to promote the brand name of SOM while providing an important link between the SOM and the community.
BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE RESEARCH CENTER
SOM plans to launch a Sustainability Management and Case Research Center to collate resources and help students and faculty connect with industry leaders to conduct research and work together to develop solutions to ever-changing sustainability challenges. to help students take what they learn from the classroom into the broader society.
